creative Landscapes Gallery
I have titled this gallery “Creative Landscapes” why add creative? A landscape image is a picture of the land that we see in front of us. Yes, but it can be more. In his book More Than A Rock my favorite photographer Guy Tal offers many insightful essays regarding the difference between representational and creative landscape images. I’ll pass along one of these: “A creative image is not a record of a scene nor a substitute for the real experience. Rather, it is an experience in itself- an aesthetic experience- something new that the artist has given the world, rather than a contrived view of something that already existed independent of them.” I certainly take pictures of epic landscapes when the moment presents itself in those iconic “postcard” locations. However these images do not satisfy me. I strive to create images to express my personal feelings, my connection to the place- to find the significance there. Significance that will elicit an emotion or sensation, tell its story, present a metaphor or relay a message. And, of course, show its unique beauty!
I hope this gallery and all my images represent not just the reality but my unique interpretation of the natural world.
