Fine Art Prints: Rare Cibachrome
Back in the film days I shot with Kodachrome 25 and Velvia 50 slide film and printed enlargements using the direct positive-to-positive processes of Cibachrome and Fujifilm Type “R” Super Glossy. Unfortunately by 2012 both of these had been discontinued and I switching to digital. Although digital printing has the advantage of speed and ease, I regret the magic of the hands-on darkroom process and the enchanted results of the Cibachrome process that many consider the most beautiful fine art prints available.
So what made the Cibachrome process so unique? Prints are made on a dimensionally stable polyester base. Within this base are thirteen emulsions layers of Azo Dyes containing Silver that are sensitive to light exposure. This process yields highly saturated colors, extraordinary resolution of details, expanded tonal range, a delightful sense of luminosity and superior archival properties. These properties are distinctive and set Cibachrome prints apart from all other methods!
Although the Fujifilm Type “R” Super Glossy was a different process it to was printed on polyester base and produced brilliant highly saturated prints.
Today both Cibachrome and Fujifilm Type “R” prints have become quite rare and sought-after plus due to their archival properties they will continue to increase in value. Beyond that they enable the viewer an opportunity to engage with the image not just on a visual but an emotional level not available in other printing methods. I have a number of these uniquely beautiful enlargements in various sizes available for purchase. Please contact me if you are interested.

Self-Published Books
I enjoy viewing images back-lit on my bright 5K computer monitor. However printed images that can be held, framed and mounted on a wall is a far more rewarding feeling. Over the years I have printed many of my images. Lately I have designed and printed images in book form. This is a fun exercise which allows the image to be printed but also to be gathered together in a theme. These books are very accessible and can be easily shared.
Please see the Gallery Section for a list of these books. There you will find a description of each and the images included. However remember that the images will appear somewhat different in the printed book on various types of paper.
All the books shown are one-of-kind. They can be purchased by special order but unfortunately since the quantity is individual the cost will be as required. I will sign and date each one and you will own one of a very small number printed.
